Japanese antique samurai Mogarashi Soten Tsuba with signature. Signed Goshu Hikone Soten Saku. Material: Iron, gold zogan. Era: Mid to late Edo period. Made by the metal smith Mogarashi Soten of Hikone in Omi (Goshu) Province, present Shiga prefecture. Depicted a battle scene dynamically. Therere two kamon (family crest): one is takedabishi and the other is rindomon. Each one represents the kamon of Takeda Shingen family and Shinshu Kiso family. Judging from this, we assume the motif of this tsuba is the battles of Kawanakajima. Faces of the samurai were expressed lively. Skillful engraving work and looks three-dimensional. Inlaid delicately in gold in every details, and inlaid in plenty of gold on stand-out parts. It enables the design to have a beautiful contrast. Gorgeous and high quality piece of work by Edo craftsman! 8.3 x 7.7 x 4cm. Some rust and scratches because of antiquity. But great condition overall. Condition of gold zogan is good. No rust on nakago hole maybe because it was cut off when mounting the sword. Check out our Instagram (ID: haganeantiquesjp) and feel free to follow us! Typically 2-5 days for arrival.
