The blade is hand-made in traditional Japanese craftsmanship way. It is hand-forged, hand-polished and hand-sharpened by our experienced smith. The blade is made of folded steel and has folded 12 times to create the 4096 layers to increase the flexibility and hardness of the blade and a distinct texture is left on the blade as a result of the repeated folding during the process. The visible tenuous undulating grain on the blade was resulted from folded repeatedly during forging. Bo-hi (blood groove) is added to each side of the blade which can not only lighten the blade but also balance it to achieve optimal performance. If you do not want the Bo-Hi, just let us know and we can customize for you. The Kissaki shape of the blade tip is Chu-kissaki. The blade surface is mirror polished by multiple abrasive stones and sand-paper. Clay was used to thinly cover the edge of blade and thicker layer cover the rest of the blade. This leads to relatively quicker cooling of the blade during quenching, producing a hard edge and softer back. The hamon on the blade was the result of quenching and tempering. This tsuba (guard) of the sword is made of silver Iron with two Copper Seppas to put on each side of it (spacer securing it). The Habaki (blade collar) is of brass composition. This Tsuka is made of hard wood, wrapped with genuine ray skin, and tied with real silk ITO in the traditional wrap style. The Fuchi (sleeve) and Kashira (buttcap) on the tsuka are made of iron with matching Menuki on each side as an ornament, two Mekugi (peg) are nailed to secure the Tang of the sword. Sword can be disassembled by picking up the two Mekugi (peg). This Saya (sheath) of the sword is made of hard wood, embedded with quality Ox Horn. The Sage-O is tied around the Kurikaka (knob)(made of OX horn) of the saya, the Koiguchi (scabbard mouth) (made of OX horn) and Kojiri (scabbard tip) (made of OX horn) has been hardened. 1: The sword is well assembled with saya and free silk bag!
