ANTIQUE JAPANESE IRON TSUBA / Katana / Wakizashi / Samurai Copper & Silver inlay —
This is an iron tsuba for either a katana or a wakizashi. From what we know, iron tsubas are usually the older ones coming from the Muromachi era (pre 1600’s) when knives / swords were actually used and they needed the stopping power of iron and not of the softer metals like copper or brass that could actually be cut by a sword. This one has a samurai with his spear and face detailed with copper inlay and his armor detailed with silver. The outer edge seems to be covered with shakudo copper. It’s 2 5/8 inches wide and 3 inches tall (6.6 x 7.6 cm). The item “ANTIQUE JAPANESE IRON TSUBA / Katana / Wakizashi / Samurai Copper & Silver inlay” is in sale since Thursday, May 14, 2020.
