TSUBA Samurai Sword guard Japanese Katana Blade antique edo UMETADA iron big —
Product name: TSUBA Japanese antique samurai sword fittings/ornaments Edo period big iron. Period: Edo Material:iron SIZE. 84.5×80.1×3.5. 3.32×3.15×0.14in. At first glance, it looks like a very smooth steel Tenpo tsuba, but it has paulownia crests scattered about. The Umitada family was originally a prestigious family claiming to be descendants of Munechika SANJO. The main business of this school was metalwork, not swordsmithing, and they lived in Nishijin, Kyoto. In later years, he moved his residence, as if carved with “Nishijin residence”. This is thought to refer to Shigetaka UMETADA (father of Meiju), the grandson of the 24th Munechika. The work before Meiju is called “Ko UMETADA Tsuba”. This Ko UMETADA tsuba has some similarities to the Koshoami tsuba, which is the same iron tsuba, but it has a more sophisticated style and is stylish like a Kyoto product. There are round and plump tetsumigakiji with kyoto openwork, and flat inlaid copper or brass on the iron base with openwork carving. It is a tsuba that is reminiscent of Momoyama art in the Oribe era of pottery. It is thought that the carvings that look like fading were calculated so that they would be in the same state as they are now in later generations. The carving wears out after hundreds of years, and it is intended to incorporate wear and aging over time as an artistic element of the work. This sensibility is Umetada’s main strength and the greatness of Momoyama art. There are no noticeable scratches. It will be delivered in a special paulownia box made in Japan (in a paulownia box).
