First, do you know a famous byobu named “Nanban Byobu”? The man who put up an umbrella to missionary is a black man, and exactly he is said that Yasuke. It’s so similar to Yasuke who a man in the TSUBA picture who take umbrella to Shogun, moreover his face express using brown copper like as a Black man. Speakign of a black man taking Western style umbrella in Edo era is none of other than Yasuke, and a general sitting at his front is just Oda Nobunaga who hiring Yasuke as a bellboy. This is my first guess. Now, I tell you my second guess. Do you know “Sen-nari-byotan” next? Sen-nari-byotan is a kind of very small gourd. Once Toyotomi Hideyoshi had allowed by Oda Nobunaga to use this small gourd as his Umajirushi (the symbol of general officer), because Hideyoshi has been marverous work when Nobunaga attacked to Mino. Now, please look at top of Western umbrella. This pattern seems to like a Sen-nari-byotan, don’t you? In either case, I’m regret but I couldn’t analysis cleary what scene of this picture. I’don’t know why one of a Samurai point to open sea where floating some ships there, and what doing a man having spear in pinetree forest at the back of Tsuba’s picture. However I’m sure that this theme of Tsuba picture is so interesting and historical one, I should have a fun. If you know a correct answer what the scene of this pattern, please teach me at the message! Height:6.8 cm Width:6.1cm Thickness:0.4cm. Nakago hole- Height:2.4cm Width:0.75cm. Main body weight:90g.
