The item is an original Japanese sword-guard called “Tsuba” from the mid-Edo Period, 1600s to 1700s. It comes with a dedicated box and a certificate published by the Society for the Preservation of Japanese Art Swords, Nihon Bijutsu Token Hozon Kyokai (NBTHK). Country of origin: Japan. With two lovely horses (maybe a couple) and heart-shaped cherry blossom petals on the face, the product is rare, unique, and tasteful. The background color is dark, blackish brown. The horses are in reddish brown and dull (unbrightened) gold, respectively. The back side is blank. Box made of paulownia wood with cushion. Outer dimensions with lid closed: Approx. 11.5 cm square, 3.4 cm in height. Weight: About 80 g. Certificate written in Japanese. English translation of the certificate. Sword guard with picture of sakura and two horses. No maker’s inscription. Primary coating by Myochin school. Picture by lacquer craftsman. Round shape with longer vertical diameter. Right-angle outer edge with slight roundness. This document certifies that. The above-mentioned item was judged to be a preserved. S a result of the assessment conducted by this Society.
